For many that personally know me know I have been celebrating Valentines day with my son these past fews years. It’s such a commercial holiday & I’m aware of that but why not celebrate it with your crushing 8 year old who is infatuated with girls during this time of his little life. I remember being 8 years old and giving my crush 3 Valentine day cards in his hand crafted Valentine day mailbox, I also remember my Mom doing what she can to celebrate this day. That to me always counted.
Im always stuck with trying figure out ways of treating him to something romantic on this day, of course he can’t cover the tab after dinner. Being that we are so close to the city, and with so much to do here. I decided on the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Perfectly in my budget because it was Free and literally up the street and around the corner.
If it’s free, it’s for me.
My son is familiar with his 44th president, proudly has his Obama portrait hanging in his room and is always ready to have a conversation about his favorite President. National Portrait gallery was the perfect trip because of the famous Obama portraits in which were publicly displayed exactly a year ago on February 12th, 2018. Both portraits mark the first time two African-American artists were commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery. So this was going to be a nice field trip for the both of us to explore. The museum consist of several floors and exhibits so be prepared to walk.
The Portraits were nothing less than what I expected. Both portraits were stunning. I was completely speechless. It’s an honor to witness these amazing paintings in person with my son, which are both apart of history.
If you’re ever in Washington, D.C. make sure to make time to visit the Obama portraits at the National Portrait Gallery. Check out are pictures from our visit in the Gallery tab. xoxo
